We lift correctly to avoid the risk of injury. The technique for lifting or moving an object is easy to remember. Position your feet alongside the load for increased stability, have one foot slightly in front of the other, bend your knees keeping your back straight, get a firm grip whilst maintaining a straight back and keep your shoulders level. As you move, keep the load steady and close to you, pushing up using your legs, keeping your chin lifted.

As you hold it, keep a good grip. If the weight is uneven, ensure that the heaviest part of the load is close to you, to avoid the load from tipping away. Be careful when moving around with the load. When putting the load down, use the same technique in reverse taking as much care as you did in lifting it. Keep your back straight and your knees bent while looking ahead. Remember to take care of not tripping over something on the floor that may be obscured by the object that you are actually carrying.

Make sure that you are placing the load where it cannot fall over onto you when you put it down. Always make sure that you do not twist your back when holding a load. If you need to turn, do so with your whole body. Never lift more than you can manage. If you are lifting a load whilst seated, ensure that you lift the load forward from your body and not from the side as this could cause injury from twisting.
