Another way of assisting someone inside, is a ceiling track hoist. These are more permanent solutions and they do require careful planning and installation. They consist of a track that is fixed to the ceiling, or in some cases, walls and a hoist itself, that could be moved across the room and into other rooms. It allows easy movement of someone, for example, from their bed to a chair or a bathroom. You can install the track to go between rooms, around corners and have junctions to easily enable movement to exactly where you need to go.
As it is so easy to use, it is beneficial for both the individual and the carer. Using ceiling hoists also reduces the risk of injuries and discomfort to the individual and the carer. As the hoist is in the ceiling, it does not take up valuable floor space. The planning and installation of ceiling hoists must be carried out by a competent company, as they have to be fitted to take the weights and sideways pressures of using the hoist. Like any hoist, they must be serviced every six months in accordance with the loader regulations and all documentation stored safely. If there are any problems with the hoist, stop using it and get some professional to check it and repair it. To use the ceiling hoist, you will need to undertake practical training with the model you will be using.
